OUTREACH AND EDUCATION COMMITTEE

Target Audiences for Outreach and Education Activities:

Ø      State Fire Marshall

Ø      Nebraska Fire Chiefs

Ø      Landowners

Ø      Recreationists, (hunters, wildlife enthusiasts)

Actions for 2007:

1. Find out when and where State Fire Chiefs meet and get on the agenda for presentation of the Fire Council objectives and state prescribed burn issues

2. Prepare a template presentation for circulating at various meetings

3. Collect prescribed burning literature for linking and posting on Fire Council website.  Include topics such as:

                                                              i.      Economics of prescribed burning

                                                            ii.      Nebraska prescribed burn success stories

                                                          iii.      Smoke management

                                                          iv.      Fire effects on specific plants

                                                            v.      Carbon sequestration

4. Contact and recruit 2 new council members

5. Prepare media releases about the Fire Council and prescribed burning education:
1. News releases (2)
2. Magazines (1)
3. Pheasants Forever publication (1)
4. Elks Foundation (1)
5. Turkey Federation (1)
