alt src=http://cwfima.com/images/stories/classroom_outside300.jpgThe Nebraska Prescribed Fire Safety Council’s mission is to promote the safe, legal, and responsible use of prescribed fire as a natural resource management tool.  The Council encourages the exchange of information, techniques and experiences among practitioners of prescribed fire in Nebraska. The Council’s objectives include:

  1. Promoting and providing training related to the safe use of prescribed burning.
  2. Providing education and outreach regarding the purpose, and benefits of prescribed burning.
  3. Working to assure that Nebraska state law supports the right and ability of the public to use prescribed fire.
  4. Developing and maintaining cooperative relations between prescribed fire practitioners.
  5. Striving to establish affordable insurance opportunities for practitioners and contractors.
  6. Working to assure available funding for activities associated with prescribed fire.

Nebraska Prescribed Burn Training Workshops- 19 different workshops throughout the state, both basic and advanced. Sponsored by Pheasants Forever, Quail Forever; hosted by Nebraska Game & Parks Commission, Nebraska Environmental Trust, Prescribed Burn Task Force, Central Platte Natural Resources District and Natural Resources Conservation Service. Flyer

Fuels Analysis Techniques- 36 hours (Saturday–Tuesday) taught in a weekend format- Cost is $1,195.00
The target audiences are GS-4 through GS-9 with little or no technical fuels education. The courses will teach students how to correctly collect and summarize fuels information and perform fuels analysis via fire behavior and effects predictions. It is expected that the information could then be incorporated into a NEPA oriented fire/fuels analysis. Both courses will be held at the Phoenix Inn, in Bend, Oregon. The Central Oregon location will provide access to both forest and grass/brush vegetation types. Instructor is Art Benefiel who has significant experience teaching TFM and fire/fuels classes for Washington Institute. He's currently a Professor of Forestry & Geographic Information Systems at Central Oregon Community College, Bend Oregon. Masters Degree in Forest Resource Management from University of Washington in Wildland Fire Management. EARN CREDITS THROUGH HUMBOLDT STATE UNIVERSITY: Students completing these courses are eligible to earn two credits per class through HSU.
