Central Platte NRD Office, 215 Kaufman Avenue, Grand Island NE
Central Platte NRD Board to Discuss Selling Schroeder Property
The Central Platte Natural Resources District’s Building and Executive committees will review proposals and provide recommendations to the Board regarding a 157-acre dryland cropland tract known as the Schroeder property. The proposals include the sale of the land and pivot bridges, and well abandonment.
The property, located six miles southeast of Cozad, was purchased by the NRD in 2018 to pursue Platte River credit opportunities. These included groundwater recharge through the retirement of irrigated acres, potential transfers from the South Side Irrigation District canal, and direct discharge to the Platte River from an adjacent site. In 2022, the Board evaluated management options to maximize hydrologic benefits. The tenant was notified that the acres would transition to dryland, allowing the NRD to retire irrigation and secure 107 acre-feet of credit back to the Platte River.
The Central Platte NRD Board of Directors will tour the new building and then convene for their regularly scheduled meeting at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at the CPNRD office, 215 Kaufman Avenue in Grand Island. The meeting is open to the public.
