Title: Prescribed Fire Planning Specialist
Location: Central Platte Natural Resources District, 215 Kaufman Ave. Grand Island NE 68803
Description: The Central Platte Natural Resources District (CPNRD) is accepting applications for the position of Prescribed Fire Planning Specialist located at the Grand Island, Nebraska, NRD office. Computer skills, prescribed burn planning and implementation experience required. Salary $50,000 – $60,000 per year, commensurate with experience. This is a full-time grant funded position. Initial grant funding has been secured for 3 years. Benefits include vacation & sick leave, health insurance, and retirement. Responsibilities: Successful applicant will be responsible for completing and submitting approximately 35 prescribed burn plans per year. Plans must meet or exceed United States Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service’s (NRCS) Prescribed Burn Implementation guidelines (NE-ECS-72) as outlined for Nebraska. Employee will also assist in the successful completion of prescribed burn unit site preparation, prescribed burn implementation, and other duties as assigned to meet CPNRD operational needs.
Prerequisites: Applicant must be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license. Applicant must have experience writing prescribed burn plans and be able to secure USDA NRCS – Nebraska JAA (Job Approval Authority) for prescribed fire planning. Applicant must have successfully completed training (NRCS or National Wildfire Coordinating Group – NWCG) for prescribed burn planning. Applicant must have successfully completed NWCG S130/S190 Basic Wildland Fire Training. Applicant must be proficient with Microsoft and GIS software utilized in prescribed fire planning. Applicant must have a college degree related to Natural Sciences related field such as Biology, Range, or Fire Ecology, or an Associate’s degree in Fire Science related to wildland or prescribed fire AND two years experience with prescribed fire. Applicant must be able to pass a DOT physical examination and the NWCG Work Capacity Test for prescribed fire.
