Free Native Prairie Seed

Planting tall grass prairies and wildflowers is vital for Nebraska’s wildlife. Stop in Central Platte NRD’s shop to visit with our staff to learn about the many wildlife species that they support.
No RSVP necessary.  The seed is provided free as part of CPNRD’s initiative to increase grassland awareness & improve wildlife habitat in Nebraska.

WHAT TO DO – OCTOBER 20

1) Select your choice of native prairie seed.

Bag of seed covers a 20 ft x 20 ft plot.  There are 2 seed types to choose from: Tall Grass Prairie mix or Wildflower/Pollinator mix.

Native Tallgrass Prairie
Mix includes: Indiangrass, Switchgrass, Big Bluestem, Sideoats Gramma, and Canada Wildrye.

• Improves Grazing
• Habitat for deer, pheasants & other wildlife

• Watershed Health

Wildflower/Pollinator Mix
Mix includes: Butterfly Milkweed, Common Milkweed, Western Yarrow, Blanketflower, Upright Coneflower, Showy Partridgepea, Purple Coneflower, False Sunflower, Wild Bergamot, Stiff Goldenrod, Ohio Spiderwort, Purple Prairieclover.

• Provides habitat for bees, butterflies & birds
• Attracts pollinators that produce 1/3 of the world’s food

2) Order trees & weed barrier for next spring.
